Abstract: Graphitic material was prepared from carbonized cellulose under the effect of catalytic action of Ni. The optimal reaction conditions for graphitization were confirmed by XRD patterns, Raman spectra and high resolution transparent electron microscopy(HRTEM), and the result illustrated that efficient graphitization of the amorphous carbon from cellulose occurred at 1 400℃ for 3 h during which annular-shaped graphitic structure with more than 40 layers formed in the presence of Ni, whereas the carbon still remained amorphous carbon structure at the same condition without any metal. Conductivity test showed that the conductivity of the graphitized product under pressure 20 MPa was 54 S/cm, which was twice of the control sample that treated at the same condition without Ni.
