Abstract: Deep eutectic solvents (DESs), similarly to ionic liquids in physicochemical properties, have distinctive properties of easy synthesis, cost effectiveness, high dissolution power, and structure design ability. Dissolving and separating lignocellulose and its components by deep eutectic solvents is a new and environmentally friendly method to produce biomass energy and materials. Based on the introduction of the physicochemical properties and dissolution mechanism, the development of DESs applications in dissolving and separating cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin was reviewed. Finally, the prospects of the utilization of DESs in the field of lignocellulose were proposed.
