Abstract: Aqueous suspensions of nanocellulose whiskers (NCW) were prepared by the sulfuric acid hydrolysis. The redispersed powders of NCW were obtained through adding a certain amount of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC-Na) to NCW suspensions and then processed by spray drying. The NCW powders were redispersed in the water and the redispersed NCW (re-NCW) were obtained. The influences of CMC-Na dosages, ultrasonic time, pH of the suspensions, and inlet temperature of the spray drying on the redispersibility of re-NCW were investigated. Then the re-NCW were characterized using several analytical techniques such as FT-IR, SEM, TEM and TGA etc. The results showed that the NCW water-redispersibility suspension were obtained with an average particle size of 170 nm and a Zeta potential of 65 mV, when the amount of CMC-Na was 6%, the ultrasonic time was 5 min, the pH value of the suspensions was 7, the inlet temperature for spray drying was 160℃, respectively.
