Abstract: Using standard serial 2-fold agar dilution method, the antimicrobial activities of N,N,N',N'-tetramethyl N,N'-diethanolamine dehydroabietate diamine dibromide (TDDDD) and N,N,N',N'-tetramethyl N,N'-didehydroabietate diamine dibromide(TDDD), which were synthesized from dehydroabietic acid and dehydroabietylamine respectively, were determined. The bioactivity test showed that these compounds possessed good antimicrobial activities toward 7 tested bacteria.Among them, the minimal bacteriostatic concentration of 4 compounds of TDDDD against Staphylococcus epidermidis were all 16mg/L. Gemini cationic surfactants have excellent antimicrobial activity because of their higher surface activites and special structures.
