Abstract: Activated carbon was produced from bamboo(Phyllostachys pubescens).Influencing factors on properties of activated carbon such as activating additives, power of microwave and activating time were systematically studied by adopting orthogonal test.Microscopic structures were characterized with electronic scanning microscopy.According to experimental data, optimum result on manufacture of activated carbon was obtained. P.pubescens were infused with 50% activator and 3.0% additive for 22 min by microwave at 720 W.Ethylene blue discoloring ability of activated carbon reached 14.5 mL/0.1 g.Different technology resulted in different microscopic structures.

Key words: Phyllostachys pubescens, activated carbon, microwave radiation
