Abstract: Synthesis of terpene-catechol resin from terpene resin and catechol was reported in this paper.Results showed that terpene-catechol resin could be synthesized directly with the proposed method.The synthesized terpene-catechol resin could be separated from terpene resin and catechol on neutral alumina column with petroleum,absolute ethanol and 5% NaOH-ethanol solution as eluates.Anion exchange resin was not suitable for the separation as stationary phase due to the strong adsorption toward catechol.The chemicals of eluates were measured by UV and IR. Terpene-catechol resin can be used for preparing copolymeric coating from terpene-catechol resin with raw lacquer.
