Abstract: Chemical compositions and their contents of catechins in 4 different tea were determined by spectrophotometry and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The results show that chemical compositions, contents of catechins and their ratios were greatly different in different varieties of tea, which are the substance bases that determine the antitumor function of tea.

Key words: tea, superoxide radical anion, antitumor activity
