STUDY ON SYNTHESIS AND PROPERTY OF TERPENE-CATECHOL RESIN

Abstract: Terpene catechol resin(TCR) was prepared from turpentine and catechol with CuCl2 as catalyst.The condition of the reaction was discussed.Structure of the product was analyzed by UV and IR,and average molecular weight of TCR was measured.Results showed that TCR was synthesized by reacting catechol with terpene.Film forming properties of TCR were superior to those of terpene phenolic resins and terpene resins.Optimum reaction conditions were as follows:reaction time 24 h,temperature 158℃,terpene:catechol 3:1(molar ratio),dosage of catalyst 4.59%.
