Abstract: (2-amethcryloyloxy)hexyl ester of dehydroabietic acid (DA-2-HHMA) with a yield of 41% was synthesized by the reaction of dehydroabietic chloride (DA-Cl) with hexanediol, and subsequently with methacryloyl chloride. The resulting product was then characterized by using FT-IR spectroscopy, 1H NMR 13C NMR, DSC and GPC. The results showed that DA-2-HHMA could polymerize in the presence of initiator. The molecular weight of homompolymer is about 20 000-30 000 and its glass transition temperature is around -21.82 ℃.

Key words: dehydroabietic acid, (2-methacryloyloxy)hexyl ester of dehydroabietic acid, free radical polymerization
