APPLICATIONS OF MEMBRANE SEPARATION TECHNIQUE IN THE PREPARATION OF XYLO-OLIGOSACCHARIDES AND ETHANOL FERMENTATION

Abstract: Application of membrane separation in the preparation of xylo-oligosaccharides and ethanol fermentation are reviewed.Membrane separation can be used in desalting,concentration and purification of xylan extractives,in the separation of xylo oligosaccharides from xylan hydrolysates,and in the classification and purification of oligosaccharides.Continuous ethanol fermentation coupling with membrane separation,ultrafiltration membrane bioreactor for enzymatic hydrolysis and enzyme recovery,and concentration of plant xylose solution through nanofiltration are a few examples of processing renewable plant resources.The applications of membrane separation techniques can help to solve the pollution problem and to reduce operation costs.
