Abstract: The performance of cupric complex of disproportionated rosin amine Shiff base on catalyzing oxidation of styrene by H2O2 has been investigated. Factors affecting oxidation, such as solvents, temperature, reaction time, dosage of catalyst and the ratio of oxidant to alkene have been investigated. The optimum reaction conditions were: 5.000 g styrene with 15 mL 30% H2O2 at 80℃ for 6 h in the presence of 0.5% cupric complex in 1,4-dioxane. The conversion of styrene was 93.3%, the yield and selectivity of benzaldehyde were 66.8% and 71.7%, respectively.

Key words: disproportionated rosin amine, Schiff base, cupric complex, styrene, oxidation
