Abstract: Effects of nitrogen and phosphorus on the performance of pulp wastewater treatment in stabilization ponds were studied.Result shows that there is a distinct effect in anaerobic ponds. As the hydraulic detention time increased, effects of nitrogen and phosphorus become insignificant. Two regression equations are formulated to express the relationship between the effluent COD and nitrogen and phosphorus, and the relationship between the substrate removal rate constant of the first order reaction and levels of nitrogen and phosphorus at the anaerobic pond phase. From the equation, the optimized nitrogen and phosphorus level has been obtained 0 and 5.2 respectively. This result will be used to improve the pulp wastewater treatment in the stabilization pond of Huaxin Pulp and Paper Ltd.
